13 Sept Sheringham Park

Our last day with Tony and Helen: the time's gone quickly. It was cooler today, but the rain held off - a great day for walking. We left this morning about 9.30 to go to Sheringham Park. It is a huge area cared for by the National Trust, and has several routes you can take. We took one that takes about an hour, with a few 'viewing points' along the way where you climb a tall wooden structure to get above the tree line and so can see over the masses of wild (and huge) rhododendron trees across the park and fields out to the sea.

We crossed a paddock full of cows, which did not please Helen, who was sure there was a bull there ready to charge us. But she bravely strode on and we ascended the 192 steps to get a lovely view of sea, old windmill, railway line on which we later saw a steam train.

We must have clocked up another few miles today, so enjoyed a reviving cuppa at the tea shoppe on our return.
We went to the village of Sheringham and had a wee wander. You take your life in your hands parking and also walking along the narrow streets. We also stopped at an old (everything is old here) church with a crumbled abbey behind it. The monks were Augustinian devotees.
Back to Kelling Barn for lunch, a rest, and then to pack.
This shows the woods and trees meeting overhead just near Kelling...hobbit country!
Tony and Helen took us the 24 miles or so to Norwich International (they fly to Scotland!) Airport and we left them, a bit sad...they have been so kind to us and it's been such a special time.
We had to pay a £10  ( each) fee for what I'm not sure, to get airside here. One bloke commented, 'a nice con.' Anyway, we're thankful to have had no travel issues, and now await the plane for Glasgow, via Manchester.
It was a Dornier 328; about 30 seats. I've never flown in such a small commercial plane. A short time after reaching 22,000 ft we were descending again into Manchester - a hugely massive city. Then it was an 80 seat Dash 8 with about 17 passengers - I've never been in such an empty plane!
